how to make an app think it's a new device

You hindquarters't FORCE it to work. There may be tricks you can play to fudge the app into reasoning it's on another twist, only for the specific app given (video playback), information technology's almost sure as shooting refusing to playback because it CAN'T.

The ironware on the device is probably something that the devs didn't anticipate, or that the app can tell International Relations and Security Network't barred enough to really work. Even if you find some way to fake it out and make it try, it's only going to crash or play backward so slow that it will be unwatchable.

You could pull the app apart using apktool an and so edit the smali, but as mentioned in preceding answers here, that would relieve extend to to problems though. Chances are the developers ready-made the app that way of life because your device was not open of playback.

If you are really curious in trying to delete the app's smali, have at it: https://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/

What you are doing is not recommended. Thither is a reason why app developers limit installation to select devices. Namely:

  1. Mechanical man Version
  2. Processor Computer architecture/GPU
  3. Chipset/Board/Read/write memor
  4. Screen Size/Denseness/Resolution

This is to ensure good, consistent, and fast user experience as much as possible.
